The change of seasons always brings some kind of excitement to the air. For some, it’s time to pack up the skis and bring out the bikes and kayaks. For others, it means the shovels can go back into the shed after this winter that we didn’t really have.

At Scenic Flights of Acadia, the change of seasons is a busy time getting ready for another year of flying guests from all over the world around our backyard of Acadia National Park and Downeast Maine. As we share the area that we love with others, it keeps us going year after year. This summer, as we enter our 11th season of operating Scenic Flights of Acadia, there is already quite a bit in store behind the scenes, around the “Little Red Shed.”

Around the area, we celebrate Acadia National Park’s Centennial. Scenic flights of the area have been a part of traveler’s Downeast vacations for generations, having operated out of the Bar Harbor Airport location for over 50 years. David and Vicki Vroom, the owners and operators of Scenic Flights of Acadia and Maine Coastal Flight actually met at the same location over 30 years ago.

Flying scenic flights for Bar Harbor Airlines was David’s first flying job. Vicki sold tickets in the booth while in college. They never thought it would be a family affair 30 years later, with one son working as a flight instructor and another helping with sales and marketing.

Acadia National Park has quite a storied history as the first national park established through private donations of land, the oldest national park east of the Mississippi River, and the Rockefeller family’s work in the creation of the carriage trails and the Park Loop Road. We are honored to be a part of the history of Acadia National Park. Especially, in the year of the Centennial being an Acadia National Park Centennial Partner.
